An interview with Cool Carla
Klyde: I want to thank you for your time doing this interview. I guess my first question is how
have you been doing all these years? Start with your life after IC and walk us through all those
years past until now. Take your time.

Cool Carla: After IC, I formed a pop trio with Lenny Llapitan (IC's keyboardist) and Rozylyn
Torres. We called ourselves Mariya. We performed in well known clubs like Faces. We were also
one of the finalists for Sony's Voice of Asia contest and we had one recorded single (Octo Arts)
called "Bahala Na" which was part of the movie "Bagets." Mariya was a very short-lived band,
approximately 8 months. Mainly because I really had no interest in pop music. After which, I joined
the much acclaimed band called Local Brown. We release an album called "Ikalawang Yugto" with
the carrier single "Ay Pedro" which incidentally included in PAL's playlist on the plane. After Local
Brown, together with Lenny, we formed Mariya's Mistress. Mariya's Mistress was a good rock
band. We did a nationwide tour in support to our album release "Unang Pag-agos" (Vicor). The
album review was even featured in Billboard (USA) magazine.
After four years with Mariya's Mistress, I put the microphone down in exchange for a saute pan.
I am now a professional chef running my own partial-catering business specializing in Brazilian
Cuisine. Maybe one day, I will go back to singing again because it is my first love.

Music is my life, cooking is my passion and chocolate is my weakness.

Klyde: Do you still get in touch with your ex-band members?

CC: Yes I do. I am still in touch with Resty (guitars), Buddy (vocals) and Lenny (keyboards).

Klyde: Did you ever collaborate with other bands during your hay days in the 80's?

CC: Well, before Teddy Diaz died, I had a meeting with him and we were planning  to form a
collaboration band that followed the style of the Cocteau Twins, because he and I were very
much influnced by the said musical artist. It was unfortunate that Teddy had to leave us so soon.

Klyde: What happened to Identity Crisis, did you guys break up, or everything sort of just fizzled
out?

CC: Just like any other band, or a relationship, we had our differences and things just faded away.

Klyde: Do you miss the IC days, the concerts and the parties?

CC: Of course I do! Who doesn't miss their party days when everyday was just one big blur of
organized chaos! Those days were fun!

Klyde: What about your WXB 102 days?

CC: Yes I miss being a DJ too. After XB I still continued my DJ stint, I was a DJ for DWLA 105
for about 5 years. The playlist changed often from world music, to rock, to electronica to pop.
My fave playlist  though was world, electronic and rock. Pop just gives me Goosebumps!

Klyde: Tell us something we don't know about WXB.

CC: Did you know that most of the songs you hear in XB are personal collections of the DJ's?
Meaning we DJ's would bring our own records to the station.

Klyde: Who was the leader of IC? Who called the shots?

CC: It was basically a democracy. Everyone had their own say in everything...which I believe led
to more problems.

Klyde: Who writes most, or all the songs?
CC: I do most of the lyrics. The music is written by the band.

Klyde: Who is your favorite band and why?

CC: There's too many to mention. Siouxsie, Cure, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Flock of
Seagulls, Duran Duran, New Order, Depeche Mode, Eurhythmics, and much much more, I like
them all!
Klyde: Did you guys ever talk about reunitng IC?

CC: We've had some offers for a reunion but we still have to find 2 of my original band mates,
 Bogs and Marvin.

Klyde: What about WXB 102, was there ever an attempt of reuniting the WXB DJ's and making
another WXB 102 radio station?

CC: Not that I know of.

Klyde: What actually happened? -What brought down WXB 102, -why was it sequestered?
Please explain.

CC: XB was owned by one of the cronies of Marcos. When the revolt happened (EDSA I), XB was
sequestered by the government. That was when XB was born.It was broadcasting as a sequestered
stationed which had no owner, just a management team running it. I guess when the papers were
fixed, a already known broadcasting group bought the station.

Klyde: Did you still get mail from your fans all those years you were gone or I was the first one
who found you?

CC: I have had a few who have contacted me through the years. But this is my first electronic
interview.

Klyde: So what is your status right now? Are you married, kids, -boyfriend?

CC: Me, Married? Hahahahaha! I don't believe in marriage. And I'm too free-spirited to ever tie the
knot.

Klyde: What do you think of my tribute web site WXB102Forever.com?

CC: As what Cool Carla would say: COOL!

Klyde: Who came up with the name Cool Carla?

CC: If I am not mistaken, it was one of the DJ's who gave me that name.

Klyde: Did you ever look back and say "man, those days were fun" ?

CC: I was just thinking of that.
Klyde: Do you want to say anything to your fans out there?

CC: This is Cool Carla, I would like to say thank you to all the supporters of XB 102.7 and Identity
Crisis (band). Without you, I would not have these wonderful memories to look back on. I wish
you all a wonderful journey in this joyride we call "life" ... So cherish the memories of the Station
that Dared to be Different, DWXB 102.7... Viva New Wave!
